To get started, you first need to be aware of your typical thoughts. Do you find yourself talking and thinking about what you don’t want and everything that is wrong in your life? Affirmations are a tool that you’ll find extremely helpful in shifting your focus on to what you DO want-which then sets into motion a whole new set of responses from “the Universe.” (Don’t be offended. This is a generic term, similar to “higher power” in recovery circles, that allows everyone to join in the process by investing the term with whatever meaning is significant for that individual.)
To construct powerful and effective affirmations, you need to:
Remember, affirmations are stated in the present tense. They are also positive and personal. Include words that convey energy and enthusiasm. The more positive energy you can generate with your affirmations, the more quickly they tend to manifest. Change your thoughts and feelings-change your life. Here are some examples…
- “I am letting happiness manifest in my life.”
- “I deserve to be happy right now.”
- “I am a money magnet.”
You can improve on these by adding emotive descriptors such as:
- “It feels wonderful that… “
- “I am so happy and excited to be…”
- “It is fantastic to…”
While this is not an article on the Law of Attraction per se, suffice it say that the Law of Attraction brings you what you focus on. So then, as you write your affirmations, as you read them, go deep and feel them and choose to believe that the Universe is in the process of responding to your request. It is important to let go of your timeline. Different requests require different amounts of your openness and ability to receive.
Remember, you are trying to reprogram a lifetime of thinking habits. Changes won’t take place overnight. Combining affirmations with creative visualizations can lead to speedier results. “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.” (William Arthur Ward)
One thing that I’ve found that prevents many people from getting what they “say” they want is an underlying belief that tells them they are unworthy to actually have it. If you find that you are unable to make lots of money, it may be the thought held in the subconscious mind is something such as “I don’t deserve to be prosperous.” In order to change our beliefs, we have to operate at the level of the subconscious mind. Believe you deserve to have a wonderful life. The truth is, we are all deserving of all good.
Finally, and perhaps I should have started with this one, feel gratitude as you go about your day. It not only sends out positive energy around your affirmations, it also helps you with feeling the trust that it is already being taken care of. Every day take some time to make a gratitude list, at least mentally but better yet, jot it down in your journal. Practice these ideas for creating powerful affirmations and you will find your heart’s desires manifesting more quickly than ever before!
