To-do lists are a useful tool for prioritizing your workload, for making sure you don't forget anything and for visualizing all the things you have to do. Once you've created your to-do list, you can then work through it one item at a time and that way get a real sense of progress as you tick each item off.

No matter who you are, where you come from, or what your ultimate goals are, creative visualization can help you.
We all want to succeed in life, and success is going to mean something different to each individual person. When you consider it, every one of our ancestors was a success, because they continued to live and reproduce. That bodes well for our potential success, too! Our individual success goals vary greatly, as they should! For one person, success may mean a big house, several expensive cars, and a few exotic vacations each year. To someone else success means a cabin in the woods with a woodstove and enough cut wood to make it comfortably through the winter. Success is completely subjective, and there are no right or wrong answers. ![]()
Humans have developed to use our imaginations for all kinds of purposes. Whether it is for comfort, entertainment, safety, or protection, our own imagination performs many jobs in our day to day lives that we rarely, if ever, even think about.
Visualizing can be a powerful tool in our self-help and self-preservation toolkit. The process can be undertaken at any time of the day, in virtually any situation you can think of. All you really need is your brain, and since that’s already with you all the time, you’re all set! ![]()
My partner in the dialog asked, “Why am I not getting the thing I want?” In this particular case, it was a promotion at work, but it could be anything–maybe you want to find a fulfilling life partner, or you’d like to be more confident, or make more sales calls, or make a significant change in career or life style or whatever it may be. Part of the answer is this: you need to be receptive and open to actually receive it.
Back in the 1980′s I played a little college baseball and I can tell you that you can’t catch a ball if your glove is closed! It bounces right off! Maybe this has already given you an “Aha! I never thought of that” moment–but even so, read on for tips on how to open up so you can “catch” that “ball” you are seeking. ![]()
When I was just launching my coaching practice, I looked at the self-help/business section at Barnes & Noble and noticed book after book on productivity, effectiveness training, time management, planning and goal setting. In my mind, that meant that people were spending money to learn how to master those types of challenges, and so I patterned my marketing around those issues.
Now, after having around the block a couple of times, I realize that for most part those are symptoms and not the real problem. Even though we pour tons of money and time into books, tapes, and seminars on general productivity, I’ve come to believe that the deeper issue is that many of us pour all that time and money into careers that don’t really matter to us. The results, not surprisingly, are disappointing, because we’re trying infuse our work with energy and effectiveness, and those things don’t come from outside. They can’t be infused if there’s no passion, no purpose. As I talk with people, it becomes very clear to me that one cannot be truly effective and successful without being passionate about what you’re doing. So how do you discover your passion? Where do you find your deepest, fundamental, core life purpose? ![]()
A huge factor in burnout is the stress related to feeling like you do not have enough time to get everything done in a day. It can feel like everyone wants you to attend to things immediately, even things that are not really that important! Our bodies are not machines, and it is important to remember that we cannot treat them as such. This is why learning how to set priorities is so important. Surprisingly, there are many people who do not know how to do this effectively. One of the first things I work with new clients on is learning how to set priorities in one's life.
"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities." – Stephen Covey Stephen Covey has created a quadrant grid that is helpful in determining where you are currently spending your time, and where you should be spending your time. According to Covey, tasks can be separated into: ![]()
Leaders are prone to take risks and those risks may cause others to see them as "losers," especially if the leaders don’t have full knowledge of what the endeavor consists of before they become involved. Some mistakes come from thinking so radically that it’s impossible to know how taking a chance will turn out. If it turns out well, the leader is a hero. If not, serious consequences may be the result.
There are some common mistakes made among most leaders that are avoidable if you know some leadership strategies. Here are five common mistakes which can and should be avoided if you’re in a leadership role: ![]()
The idea of self-reliance is a broad one and one that covers many different concepts. Everyone has a slightly different idea of what constitutes self-reliance and there are many different types of self-reliance that apply more in different situations.
You can be self-reliant in that you don't need the accolades of other people, you can be self-reliant in that you are able to do things on your own without becoming lonely or bored and you can be self-reliant in as much as you're able to solve problems without help. Self-reliance is none of these things and all of these things and as such, none of us are probably truly self-reliant (though most of us strive to be more so in various areas of life). Read on and we'll look at some of the different ways in which you can be self-reliant and some of the forms it takes. ![]() Does your morning routine consist of staying in bed as late as possible while barely making it to work on time?
