![]() Leadership in today’s world requires new leadership values. No longer is a leader simply a person who can make a good photo op and inspiring speech. Today, a leader faces challenges with huge political, economic, and environmental consequences. A leader should have the ability to convince followers (and others) to change destructive habits, be good communicators, and focus more on the participation of women in leadership roles. ![]()
Leaders are prone to take risks and those risks may cause others to see them as "losers," especially if the leaders don’t have full knowledge of what the endeavor consists of before they become involved. Some mistakes come from thinking so radically that it’s impossible to know how taking a chance will turn out. If it turns out well, the leader is a hero. If not, serious consequences may be the result.
There are some common mistakes made among most leaders that are avoidable if you know some leadership strategies. Here are five common mistakes which can and should be avoided if you’re in a leadership role: ![]()
Self-reliance means having the will and the courage to do things alone and to be alone rather than relying on others. This is a very powerful tool because it means that you can never feel completely alone or lost. You are the one person who will always be with you – and if that is enough, then it will make a big difference and put you in a much stronger position. If you are self-reliant, then there is nothing that can be taken away from you that will leave you completely destroyed.
As mentioned, true self-reliance takes courage. The ability to be alone, to take risks without a safety net and to cut ties when it best serves your interests is one that requires a certain fearlessness that not everyone possesses naturally. So for many, the first step towards self-reliance will be in acquiring that courage that makes everything else possible. And one tool for doing this is "fear setting." ![]()

But if you are not someone who is naturally independent or self-sufficient, what can you do to acquire these traits? Is self-reliance something you are simply born with… or not? Or can it be learned? ![]()
This is the second article in a series that I’m doing on self-reliance. Part 1 is here.

But just what is it that makes being self-reliant so important and so crucial? Why is this such an important trait and who stands to benefit from it? Let's take a look at some of the top reasons to develop self-reliance and to make it a priority in your life… ![]()
The idea of self-reliance is a broad one and one that covers many different concepts. Everyone has a slightly different idea of what constitutes self-reliance and there are many different types of self-reliance that apply more in different situations.
You can be self-reliant in that you don't need the accolades of other people, you can be self-reliant in that you are able to do things on your own without becoming lonely or bored and you can be self-reliant in as much as you're able to solve problems without help. Self-reliance is none of these things and all of these things and as such, none of us are probably truly self-reliant (though most of us strive to be more so in various areas of life). Read on and we'll look at some of the different ways in which you can be self-reliant and some of the forms it takes. |
